Kenny Ellis, co-trainer of WBA lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), responded to comments from Egis Klimas, the manager of IBF and IBO titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs).
Recently, Klimas revealed that the Ukrainian wants to spend more time with his family and won't return to the ring until the end of the year.
"If Lomachenko can't find motivation from the opportunity to become the face of boxing, his team needs to hang up his gloves where he can never reach them again. He's finished," said Ellis.
Top Rank founder and head Bob Arum had stated that the Lomachenko-Davis fight could take place in November 2024, with the Ukrainian coming to the US to discuss the fight details.
In June, Gervonta Davis defended his title and handed Frank Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) his first career loss by knocking him out in the 8th round. In May, Vasyl Lomachenko defeated George Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) by technical knockout in the 11th round to become the IBF and IBO champion.
