On March 1 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, local former world champion Subriel Matias (22-2, 22 KOs) stepped into the ring against 30-year-old Mexican Gabriel Valenzuela (30-4-1, 17 KOs).
The fight ended in the eighth round, when Matias dropped Valenzuela with a knockdown. After the referee’s count, the bout was waved off.
This marks Matias’ second consecutive stoppage victory since his loss to Liam Paro in a title fight. For Valenzuela, this was his first defeat since 2022, when he lost a decision to Montana Love.
