Behind the scenes of the press conference dedicated to the match between former undisputed junior welterweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) and Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs), Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn discussed the fight's organization.
"We wanted to fight at junior welterweight, but it wasn't a condition of the agreement. We entered negotiations believing the weight would be around 64 kg. Josh talked about moving up in weight, but he feels junior welterweight is the right weight for him if he has the time, and he does. Therefore, no excuses. He requested junior welterweight, and that's where he feels his best," Hearn said.
Former world champion Tony Bellew also shared his expectations for the fight:
"Taylor is a brilliant fighter. He's won all those belts, and you can never take that away from him. He's not the fight's favorite because of his reaction to the Catterall fight, which is harsh. He could have handled it better.
Neither of them can move on in their careers without facing each other. They need to meet face to face and finish this. They both need each other to end this.
Ultimately, I hope that on April 27, this feud will be over," Bellew said.
In their first fight in February 2022, Taylor won by majority decision, having been knocked down twice and suffering a cut. The rematch is scheduled for April 27 in Leeds, United Kingdom.
It's worth noting that on February 19, a stare-down took place during which Catterall grabbed Taylor by the throat, and only security prevented a fight. On February 20, at the second press conference, Josh called Jack a "fool."
