WBA super lightweight champion Gary Antuanne Russell had harsh words for Devin Haney following his May 2 unanimous decision victory over Jose Carlos Ramirez in Times Square.
“Devin Haney is trash. Devin Haney is finished. Ryan Garcia broke that man. Garcia dropped him, hurt him, and beat him up — and now he can’t even fight the way he used to. He’s garbage. Washed-up material. I never thought he was a good boxer.
His strongest punches were probably jabs to the body. He threw a few hooks, and they weren’t strong. Were they clean? Sure, I’ll give him that. But they weren’t effective punches.
He wasn’t sitting down on them. They were coward’s punches. You can tell his heart’s not in it anymore,” said Russell.
Haney and Ramirez landed a combined 110 punches over 12 rounds — a notably low-output fight. Detailed fight stats are available via the link.
