Xander Zayas on Potential Fundora Fight

Undefeated Puerto Rican prospect Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs) has spoken out about the potential showdown with WBC and WBO junior middleweight world champion Sebastian Fundora (22-1-1, 14 KOs), saying he sees clear opportunities to exploit the towering champion’s flaws.

“I’m 22 years old, and there’s already talk about me fighting for my first world title. A win would mean the world to me.

Fundora is a tall fighter, but if you watch his fights, he doesn’t know how to use his reach. His footwork isn’t the best. He’s a warrior, and he knows how to fight, but I think he has a lot of weaknesses I can take advantage of.

We’ve already picked our sparring partners for this camp. We know exactly who we’re bringing in. We’re in talks for the title fight, and we’re hopeful that it will be next.

I hope I get my title shot this summer, and I can bring that championship belt home to Puerto Rico.”

Insiders recently reported that Fundora vs. Zayas is being targeted for July or August, following Fundora’s first successful title defense on March 22, when he stopped Chordale Booker in the fourth round. Zayas last fought on February 14, scoring a ninth-round TKO over Slawa Spomer.
