According to Boxing Scene journalist Lance Pugmire, unified WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora (22-1-1, 14 KOs) is ready to make his mandatory title defense against rising Puerto Rican star Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs).
“Just spoke with Samson Lewkowicz. They will follow the WBO mandate for Sebastian Fundora vs. Xander Zayas, and expect the fight to take place in July or August,” Pugmire reported.
The WBO has officially ordered Fundora to defend his title against Zayas. The two sides now have 20 days to reach an agreement—otherwise, the bout will go to purse bid.
Fundora recently made his first unified title defense on March 22, stopping Chordale Booker via 4th-round TKO. Zayas last fought on February 14, earning a ninth-round TKO over Slawa Spomer.
