It has been announced that in the 5 vs 5 tournament between promotional companies Matchroom and Queensberry, Eddie Hearn has chosen Deontay Wilder to be the captain of his team. This means that a likely victory by the American could bring double points to his team.
Eddie expressed his confidence in Deontay:
"His Excellency mentioned that we have a wildcard; we can choose the best fighter we want. I looked at which heavyweights were available. This man has long been one of the most dangerous punchers in the division.
He's coming back from a defeat. I think he'll return even more dangerous. When we spoke with Shelly (Finkel), Deontay, his team—it was an obvious choice. Wilder vs. Zhilei—this is a big, huge fight in the heavyweight division.
We'll see what the future holds, but for one night, we will work together. I believe he will really make a statement, return to the heavyweight scene, and deliver an incredible performance in Riyadh," said Hearn.
The fight between Deontay Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs) and Zhang Zhilei (26-2-1, 21 KOs) will take place on June 1st as part of the 5 vs 5 tournament. Previously, we discussed how the team points would be calculated.
Wilder has stated that he considers the fight against Zhilei to be his last chance.
