WBC Names Skye Nicholson the Women’s Boxer of the Year

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has recognized featherweight champion Skye Nicholson (12-0, 1 KO) as its Women’s Boxer of the Year.

The Australian fighter defeated Sarah Mahfoud in April, capturing the WBC world title. She went on to successfully defend her belt against Dayana Vargas and Raven Chapman in July and October, respectively.

Throughout 2024, Skye Nicholson beat top-level opponents—Sarah Mahfoud, Dayana Vargas, and Raven Chapman—earning convincing victories that showcased her skill and dominance in the ring.

Nicholson made history by participating in the first women’s world title fight in Saudi Arabia—a significant step forward for women’s boxing.

Her drive to inspire girls and women to pursue their dreams in sports sends a powerful message that resonates far beyond the boxing ring.

This combination of athletic excellence, historical significance, and inspiration makes Skye Nicholson a worthy recipient of the WBC ‘Boxer of the Year’ award,” said the organization’s statement.

Previously, the WBC named Oleksandr Usyk as its Boxer of the Year on the men’s side.
