The trainer of Ukrainian super middleweight boxer Sergiy Derevyanchenko (15-6, 10 KOs), Andre Rozier, explained why he chose not to stop the fight between his fighter and France’s Christian Mbilli (28-0, 23 KOs).
"He has a warrior’s heart. His bicep was torn, and we all know how painful that can be. I asked him, ‘Do you want me to stop the fight?’ He replied, ‘No.’ That’s the mark of a true warrior. He fought with one hand against one of the best fighters at super middleweight. One hand. And he gave it everything he had," said Rozier.
To recap, on the night of August 18 in Quebec, Canada, Christian Mbilli defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko by unanimous decision in the main event. In the 4th round, the Ukrainian suffered a left bicep injury and fought the majority of the bout using only his right hand.
