What’s Next?

The winner of this bout could potentially be in line for a fight against Saúl Álvarez, although it remains uncertain. This was Mbilli’s third fight of the year, and theoretically, he could step into the ring again before year’s end. However, this doesn’t align with Álvarez’s schedule, who is set to fight in the fall and is unlikely to return to the ring in 2024.

Álvarez also has more lucrative options, such as Crawford or Benavidez. Therefore, if a fight with Mbilli happens, it’s unlikely to occur before the second half of 2025.

For Derevyanchenko, this is yet another close defeat against a high-caliber opponent, where once again, he came up just short. This time, it was his health that failed him, as the injury prevented him from fully competing throughout the fight.

However, it’s far from the end for Sergiy, as his style and experience remain valuable. Don’t be surprised if, after recovering from his injury, Derevyanchenko secures another interesting matchup and delivers yet another entertaining fight.
