The head of the promotional company K2 Promotions and CBDO of Ready To Fight, Alexander Krassyuk, shared how the former world champion Gennadiy Golovkin signed a contract with their promotional company.
"I witnessed this story myself. Golovkin was with Universum. Possibly, he was already a world champion by then. But he was completely dissatisfied with the management.
He wanted more. Wanted to be a star. And the Germans were quite limited by their German borders.
Gennadiy had legal disputes with Universum. It was public information. Everyone knew he was practically a free agent. Everyone knew he was looking for partners. And when the WBA Congress took place in Donetsk, Tom Loeffler negotiated with someone from Golovkin's representatives there. Possibly, it was Gennadiy's brother. And then Tom signed him to K2.
Loeffler took up the matter well and took Gennadiy on a tour through America, held a series of press conferences, and arranged with HBO to accept Golovkin. At first, it was all on ridiculous terms. If you tell someone that you boxed on HBO for such money. But we all went through this. And Usyk went through this too. But it's necessary to do it to make a name for yourself. And then, when the contract with K2 expired, Tom continued to work with Golovkin in GGG Promotions," said Krassyuk.
Golovkin has not boxed since 2022. In early 2024, he became the president of the Kazakhstan NOC. Recently, Loeffler stated that, in his opinion, Gennadiy will not return to the ring.
