Promoter Tom Loeffler says he doubts his client, former world champion from Kazakhstan, Gennadiy Golovkin, will ever box again.
"It seems like he's just going to live life. Gennadiy was appointed to a significant position in Kazakhstan. I think he will continue to be involved in sports, but he won't be competing in the ring. Golovkin has achieved so much during his career. He had so many title defenses, sold-out the O2 Arena in London, a packed Saitama Arena in Japan, a special night against Martin Murray in Monaco. It seems like he just feels he's accomplished everything he wanted in boxing. Now he holds a very high position in Kazakhstan. He's not only the head of Olympic boxing in the country but also the leader of all sports for the National Olympic Team of Kazakhstan. That means he's fully occupied," Loeffler explained. Golovkin last fought in the fall of 2022, losing by decision in the third fight against Saul Alvarez. After that, in February 2024, Gennadiy became the head of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.
