On May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titleholder Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will battle for the status of the undisputed heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg).
The fight was initially scheduled for February 17, but Fury sustained a cut, causing the bout to be postponed. Usyk recalled his reaction when he learned of his opponent's injury.
"Friday is sparring day. I came back after it, and Yuriy and Sergey said to me, 'Listen, we have a problem.' The problem isn't just ours - it's for the entire boxing world because Tyson has a cut. I smiled: 'Okay, I'm going back to work,'" Usyk recounted.
It was recently revealed that the date for the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury has been set and that the International Boxing Federation will strip the IBF belt due to an overdue mandatory defense.
