Tim Tszyu's (24-1, 17 KOs) manager, Glen Jennings, has commented on promoter Sampson Lewkowicz's remarks about a rematch with WBC and WBO super welterweight (up to 69,9 kg) champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs).
"A verbal deal? Sampson, brother, there's no such thing in boxing. He knows that, so he's just saying it to get a reaction. Sampson is a guy I've known for a long time. He's an old-school promoter who loves to stir things up and rock the boat, that's all.
He knows such statements trigger reactions and draw attention to his fighter. But it's just cheap talk. Of course, there's an agreement for a rematch specifying time frames. A rematch in Australia would be the ideal scenario, but it's not that simple.
Now, there will be complications related to how Sebastian moves forward as a unified champion and will be involved in some big fights we were considering. But I can tell you 100 percent – Tim would love to fight Fundora again when he can see him.
Yes, Fundora won, but he won against a guy who couldn't see. Imagine what happens when Tim can see clearly. So we'll think about what to do next.
Tim Tszyu didn't lose any stock in this fight. Maybe it's the opposite. But the reality at this level is, when you're defeated, you need to step back and then take a few extra steps to get back to where you were," Jennings told Fox Sports Australia.
The WBO ordered Fundora and Crawford to begin negotiations regarding a fight on Monday, April 1st.
