On September 21, at Wembley Stadium in London, UK, in the main event of the evening, IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) demolished former champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs).
After successfully defending his title, Dubois shared his emotions:
"I’ll just say a few words: ‘Aren’t you entertained?’
It’s been a long journey, and I’m grateful to have reached this moment. I’m a gladiator, a warrior till the end. My goal is to reach the highest level in this sport and fully unleash my potential.
It’s been like a rollercoaster. This is my time, my redemption story, and I won’t stop until I fulfill my potential."
Dubois also hinted at who he wants to face next:
"I want to fight the best. Maybe Usyk – that’s my big chance for redemption. Anyone can get that fight."
Queensberry Promotions head Frank Warren commented on his client’s triumphant night:
"It was a phenomenal fight, and I always felt it would be something like Hagler-Hearns. Anthony showed his character until the very end. It was a great fight. I was confident that Dubois could do it, and he truly did. This wasn’t a surprise; it was predictable.
He was a young guy who had double orbital fractures and couldn’t fight for a while. He hurt Usyk, and I’d love to see Dubois face him now. But for now, Oleksandr has to fight Tyson Fury.
Everyone saw a true champion tonight. Daniel did everything that was expected of him. AJ landed some shots, and I started to worry. He’s a young guy at the peak of his form, and he can only get better," Warren told DAZN.
As a reminder, Daniel Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua – with knockdowns in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds. After the final knockdown, Joshua couldn’t rise before the referee’s count. KO 5.
