Dubois Shocks Joshua: Key Facts and Statistics

On September 21, at Wembley Stadium in London, UK, a highly anticipated boxing event took place, headlined by a heavyweight clash between former world champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) and current IBF heavyweight titleholder Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs).

Joshua entered the fight riding a four-fight win streak, with three of those victories coming by stoppage. Dubois, on the other hand, came in off two knockout wins of his own.

The bout quickly turned shocking as Joshua hit the canvas in the very first round but managed to continue. He would go down again in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds, with the final knockdown coming from a powerful right hand from Dubois. Joshua couldn’t beat the count, and the fight ended in a KO in the 5th round.

Fight Statistics

According to Compubox, Joshua threw 117 punches, landing 32 of them (27.4%). Dubois threw 196 punches, connecting with 79 (40.3%).

Joshua landed 18 jabs out of 82 thrown (22%), while Dubois landed 30 out of 100 jabs (30%).

Joshua connected with 14 power punches out of 35 thrown (40%), while the champion Dubois landed 49 power punches out of 96 (51%).

Joshua managed to land 3 body shots, with just 1 being a power shot. Dubois landed 10 body shots, 8 of which were power punches.

What’s Next?

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has hinted at a potential rematch, but only after Joshua takes some time off. As for Joshua himself, he has remained cautious about discussing future plans.

Dubois, with this massive victory, may be in line to face the winner of the upcoming rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. Dubois mentioned Usyk by name, seeking revenge after the Ukrainian knocked him out in their first encounter.

However, the future for both boxers will become clearer after the Usyk vs. Fury rematch in December. It’s unlikely that either Dubois or Joshua will return to the ring before the end of the year.
