Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has shared insights on potential opponents for WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) after his planned fight with William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) was canceled due to the Mexican’s injury.
“There’s Schofield—a great young talent. That would be exciting to promote. You’ve got nothing to lose. You get a lot of money and an excellent opportunity. I think an announcement from His Excellency regarding a February 22 fight might even come this week.
We’ve also considered Cordina. But our main plan is a unification fight with Berinchyk. Although, obviously, Top Rank will have their say in this too. I think if not Berinchyk, it will be one of those two,” Hearn said.
Recently, the timeline for Zepeda’s recovery was revealed. Meanwhile, Denys Berinchyk has yet to secure his next opponent.
