WBC interim lightweight champion William Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) revealed that he sustained an injury in his recent fight against Tevin Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs).
"After my last fight, I injured my left hand. This week, we focused on treatment to return to the gym as soon as possible, but after a medical evaluation, I was advised to rest for 6–8 weeks to ensure proper recovery.
It’s important to take this short break for my career because I know big opportunities await me in 2025, and I need to be 100% ready.
After this recovery period, I hope to return at the end of March. I look forward to an opportunity to fight for the WBC title," Zepeda shared.
On November 16, Zepeda defeated Farmer via split decision to claim the WBC interim lightweight title.
It was previously announced that the February 22 fight between Zepeda and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) has been canceled.
