The World Boxing Council (WBC) has officially sanctioned a fight between American WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) and Mexican contender William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs).
WBC President and Ready To Fight advisor Mauricio Sulaiman announced the details of organizing the bout. If the parties fail to reach an agreement, a promotional purse bid will take place on August 20, with the purse split 70/30 in favor of Stevenson.
Both fighters last fought on July 6: Shakur Stevenson won a unanimous decision over Artem Harutyunyan (12-2, 7 KOs), and William Zepeda knocked out Giovanni Cabrera (22-2, 7 KOs) in the 3rd round.
