The head of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, has confirmed Turki Alalshikh's plans for WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) and his next opponents.
According to the promoter, after facing Floyd Schofield (19-0, 12 KOs), Shakur’s following challengers will be interim WBC champion William Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) and WBA titleholder Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs).
“We’ve laid out the roadmap for 2025. The first opponent will be Floyd Schofield, followed by William Zepeda in May, and then Gervonta Davis. This is Shakur’s year, and we’re ready for any challenges.
We were initially set to fight Zepeda, but he suffered a hand injury. We needed a new opponent for Shakur on February 22. I spoke with His Excellency and said, ‘There’s a guy calling him out on social media—Floyd Schofield. He’s a very talented American fighter, and there’s a bit of tension between them. I think it’s a great fight.’ His Excellency agreed: ‘Alright, let’s make an offer and see where it goes.’
We made an offer to Golden Boy. Judging by Oscar’s comments, it looks like the guy is in: ‘I want this fight. First of all, it’s big money. Secondly, I think I can beat Shakur Stevenson. Give me a shot at him,’” Eddie Hearn said in an interview with K.O. Artist Sports.
Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield are set to clash on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
