Welterweight contender Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) has voiced his frustration over the recent fight between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 24 KOs) and Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs).
"I’m not a hater—I like Tank. I think he’s a great fighter. He had an off night, and Lamont put on a great performance. It’s that simple. But I’m sick of the inconsistencies in boxing. It’s just insane.
The referee saved Haney from getting stopped, didn’t even warn him for holding on for dear life. Took a point from me without a warning. And then came this ridiculous story about me testing positive for ostarine. It’s complete nonsense.
All of this pisses me off, and I’m going to take it all out on Rolly." Garcia wrote.
For reference, on March 1, Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach fought to a D-MD 12—a majority draw after twelve rounds. The fight stirred controversy, particularly in the ninth round when Davis took a knee, but the referee did not rule it a knockdown, sparking heated debates in the boxing community.
Ryan Garcia is set to return to the ring on May 2 against Rolando "Rolly" Romero on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza. Also featured on the card is Devin Haney—Garcia’s former rival, whom he is expected to face next, provided both win their upcoming fights.
