Welterweight contender Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) has weighed in on the controversial moment from the WBA lightweight title fight between Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs).
Garcia was referring to an incident in the ninth round when Davis took a knee—a move that typically results in an official knockdown count. However, instead of ruling it as such, the referee allowed Davis to retreat to his corner, where his face was wiped off, and the fight resumed. After the bout, Davis explained why he had done this.
"Lamont won this fight. Not calling that knockdown is the wildest thing I’ve ever seen in boxing. Stuff like this ruins the sport. Madness! See you on May 2," Garcia wrote.
As a reminder, on the night of March 2, Davis and Roach fought to a majority draw (D-MD 12) with no official winner.
