American super lightweight boxer Ryan Garcia has shared his thoughts on his planned bout against Japanese kickboxer Anpo, scheduled for December 30, and his future plans.
“Obviously, I’m sidelined right now, so this is my only chance to stay active. It was a low-quality supplement, just traces of doping they found. It’s incredibly frustrating, but there’s nothing I can do about it now.
I just have to go with the flow. I’m taking part in this exhibition because it’s a big event and to stay in shape for a bigger fight, to maintain that rhythm. This is my only way, so I found a solution.
Obviously, a few months off can ruin your form—you lose some of your abilities—but we’ll see how it goes. After that, we’ll decide what’s next. I’m just trying to get back on track after a long break, adjust to training, stay in shape, and continue developing to prepare for a big fight in April.
That’s what I, Golden Boy, and the entire team are planning to do. It all depends on how I feel,” Garcia stated.
It’s still unclear if the fight against Anpo will proceed, given Golden Boy Promotions’ objections to its announcement. However, Garcia has ambitious plans for the future, including a potential blockbuster fight against Jake Paul.
