Ryan Becomes Head Coach for Brother Sean

American boxer Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) announced that he has become the head coach for his brother Sean Garcia (7-1-1, 2 KOs).

On the night of February 7th, Sean was knocked out in the 6th round by Amado Vargas (11-0, 5 KOs). Before this bout, Sean missed the weight limit by 3 pounds at the official weigh-in. Similarly, before his fight against Devin Haney, Ryan also missed the weight by 3 pounds.

"Maybe Sean lost, but there's great news. I wasn't in his corner. The Vargas brothers lead us 1-0, and that's okay. We’re calling for a rematch, and I'll be the head coach. Amado, how are you?" Ryan said in a joint video message with his brother.

In April, Ryan defeated Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) by decision. However, Garcia failed to make weight before the fight and could not contest for the title. After the bout, it was revealed that Ryan tested positive in three doping tests, and the result of the fight with Haney was annulled. Garcia received a one-year suspension.

Later, Ryan became embroiled in a racist scandal due to his tweets and announced that he is battling drug addiction and will undergo treatment in a rehabilitation center.
