Ryan Garcia's promoter and Golden Boy founder Oscar De La Hoya commented on his protégé's victory over WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).
"Great fight. Truly a stunning bout. Perhaps one of the best we've seen in terms of emotion, promotion, and hype. I must say, I'm proud to have brought together two young fighters at their peak in one ring in New York, and the world watched. Fighters, fight young guys, fight in your best years—that's how you become legends. Today, Ryan Garcia became a legend," Oscar said.
Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, also gave credit to Ryan: "Wow, this sport never ceases to amaze me. Hats off to Ryan. Haney has the heart of a lion. What a fight."
On April 21st, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney. Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion, as Ryan did not meet the weight requirements and was ineligible for the title.
