Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions and promoter of Mexican super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) representative Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs), commented on his fighter's bout against undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs).
"I think Jaime did a great job against the current face of boxing. I don't want to diminish Canelo's accomplishments, but the experience from this fight will elevate Jaime to a new level. It will be like Canelo vs. Mayweather: Canelo was taught a lesson, and then he became the face of boxing and a good fighter. It will be the same with Munguia, who also learned a lesson, but he gained experience and will become a better fighter. This is just the beginning for Jaime," said De La Hoya.
On the night of May 5th, Saul Alvarez won against Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision, successfully defending his undisputed champion status for the fourth time. This loss marked the first of Munguia's career.
