No Shakur vs. Haney Fight in the Near Future

WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) says he was still ready to meet Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) instead of Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) if the latter could not make it to the championship fight. However, it seems this time the fight won't happen due to Bill Haney – Devin's father.

"I'm not trying to go back and forth on social media, little brother. Be blessed, my Muslim brother. I'm ready to step in for a fighter with obvious mental issues, but if your father never wants to fight me, then there's nothing more to say," Stevenson stated.

Earlier on Twitter, Shakur mentioned that he had reached out to Devin's father about replacing Ryan Garcia. Stevenson doubts the American will go for the WBC super lightweight title fight (up to 63.5 kg) and cites mental health issues as the reason. However, Bill Haney publicly dismissed Shakur.

The Haney vs. Garcia fight is scheduled for April 20 in New York.
