Today, May 23, it was revealed that the B sample of American boxer Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine. Ryan's legal team issued a statement regarding the doping case.
«Ryan Garcia has always been committed to fair and honest competition. He categorically denies any intentional use of a banned substance.
Shortly after being informed of the positive test, Ryan voluntarily collected his hair and sent it to Dr. Pascal Kintz, a leading expert in toxicology and hair sample analysis. The results of Ryan’s hair samples came back negative, indicating that Ryan did not intentionally consume Ostarine in the past six months. Ryan has voluntarily undergone tests throughout his career, which have always shown negative results. He also tested negative several times before the fight against Haney, including 17 days before the positive test.
All these factors, combined with his extremely low levels in the samples taken on April 19 and 20 (in the parts-per-billion range), indicate that Ryan was a victim of contaminated supplements and never received any performance-enhancing benefits from the microscopic amount of the substance in his system.
We are confident that one of the natural supplements Ryan used before the fight was contaminated. We are in the process of testing the supplements to determine the exact source,» the statement reads.
On April 20, Ryan defeated Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) by split decision, becoming the first to defeat Devin in the professional ranks. Haney's team is demanding the result be overturned due to Garcia's positive doping tests.
