Alexander Krassyuk, promoter of unified heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk (WBA, WBC, WBO, IBO – 23-0, 14 KOs), has shared his thoughts on a possible rematch between his fighter and British IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs).
— Alexander, not that I doubt the credibility of The Ring — it’s a respected outlet and doesn’t peddle rumors — but can you confirm that a fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois has already been finalized?
— That information has indeed surfaced. I’ve seen it myself. But we haven’t officially announced the fight — and there are reasons for that. For now, I can neither confirm nor deny what The Ring has reported.
What I can tell you is this: we’ve been in negotiations with Daniel Dubois’ team for over a month already. But as of today, there’s still no concrete outcome.
— You mentioned there are “reasons” for the silence. What are they?
— The reason is simple: talks are still ongoing, and nothing is final yet. You see, there’s also Joseph Parker in the mix. He’s the WBO’s mandatory challenger for the world title.
There are a lot of details that still need to be sorted out. Until we do, I can’t say anything definitive about Usyk vs. Dubois — even I don’t know for sure.
— Should we expect a fight in July, then?
— Possibly July. Possibly June. But I wouldn’t even rule out the fall. It all depends on how — and if — we come to terms with Dubois’ team.
Earlier reports suggested that the rematch between Usyk and Dubois could take place on July 12 at the legendary Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Usyk’s team has also begun recruiting sparring partners for the upcoming camp.
The first meeting between Usyk and Dubois happened in August 2023, when the Ukrainian secured a ninth-round TKO victory.
Usyk last stepped into the ring in December, defeating Tyson Fury by unanimous decision in their rematch.
As for Dubois, he delivered a shocking fifth-round knockout win over Anthony Joshua in September. He was later scheduled to defend his IBF title against Joseph Parker on February 22, but withdrew due to illness.
