Julio Cesar Martinez No Longer a Champion

As reported by insider Michael Benson, 29-year-old Mexican Julio Cesar Martinez (21-3, 15 KOs) is no longer the WBC flyweight champion (up to 50.8 kg). He has vacated the title, which is now declared vacant.

Martinez announced that he will be moving up to the next weight category – super flyweight (up to 52.1 kg).

Julio Cesar became champion in 2022. During this time, he defended the title three times – two victories by decision and one by technical knockout. The champions in the super flyweight division are Juan Francisco Estrada, Kazuto Ioka, Fernando Martinez, and Kosei Tanaka. Previously, another former flyweight champion Jesse Rodriguez announced his change of category – he will face WBC champion Juan Francisco Estrada at the end of June.
