Influencer and boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) has taken aim at Saul "Canelo" Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs), accusing the Mexican champion of turning down a fight with him and prioritizing money over his boxing legacy.
“He chose financial gain over historical legacy by turning down one of the biggest fights in history.
Now he’s fighting some random guy in Saudi Arabia (IBF super middleweight champion William Scull). He betrayed his fans and chose money because he was threatened with having his contract terminated. People in this business don’t want me to become boxing’s biggest star. That’s the nature of this sport and its politics. But eventually, all these rats will want a piece of the cheese.
He’ll come back and want to fight me when he realizes his fights over there don’t generate the same buzz,” Paul said.
Following Canelo’s signing with Riyadh Season, Paul previously accused him of ducking a fight and even displayed allegedly a signed contract for the proposed bout.
In November, Jake Paul defeated Mike Tyson via unanimous decision.
Canelo Álvarez is set to face William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the undisputed super middleweight championship.
