Jaime Munguia Speaks for the First Time After Being Cleared in Doping Case

Mexican Super Middleweight boxer Jaime Munguia commented on the situation surrounding his false positive doping test.

«Honestly, it was very tough. When something like this happens, people and most of the media are quick to judge without knowing the whole story. But I knew the truth and believed the process would clear my name. I built my career on fair competition, respect for the sport, and principles of honesty both inside and outside the ring. The levels detected were very low, provided no performance advantage, and were fully consistent with accidental contact. I did not cheat. Science proves this, and I am grateful to the WBC, BBBofC, and UKAD for confirming this truth. I respect the testing system, because it’s important to keep the sport clean, but I believe it can be improved. A boxer’s reputation and career depend on it, so it is vital that the process is accurate, fair, and transparent. Mistakes can have huge consequences — now I know this from personal experience — and no fighter should go through such a thing if he is innocent», said Munguia.

After his rematch against Bruno Surace, which took place on May 3, Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) tested positive for a banned substance. Soon, the B sample also confirmed the positive result. In early September, Munguia announced that the test had been proven a false positive and the boxer was cleared.
