Jai Opetaia Says Gilberto Ramirez Is Avoiding Him

IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia believes Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, the current WBA and WBO titleholder, is avoiding a unification bout.

- He doesn’t want to fight you because you’re a beast, said promoter Eddie Hearn.

- That’s absolute bullshit! The best should fight the best. I’ve got two belts, he’s got two belts—I want that fight.

I just don’t get why it hasn’t been made yet. The only explanation is: he’s avoiding me, the Australian replied.

He later added:

"No other fight in this division makes sense. You know what I’m saying? This is the top of cruiserweight—me and him. Top two in the division. Let’s fing fight. Let’s f***ing give the people what they want and see who the better man is. We can make this fight easily. I’m here. And I’m calling him out." Opetaia said.

Opetaia’s next bout is scheduled for May 15 in Australia, where he’ll face an undefeated Italian challenger.
