Hearn on Opetaia’s Plans: “We’re Set to Make a Fight Against Usyk”

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn revealed his ambition to pit IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia (27–0, 21 KOs) against the two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk (23–0, 14 KOs).

"In my opinion, Oleksandr Usyk is the greatest cruiserweight boxer of all time. He became undisputed champion. Then he moved up to heavyweight and captured the undisputed title there.

Jai is determined to win every cruiserweight belt to become undisputed, and then we plan to organize a fight with Oleksandr so he can attempt to become the undisputed champion at heavyweight.

One must aspire to greatness, and Usyk is a truly formidable and serious challenge. But to achieve that, we must first conquer each cruiserweight title," Hearn stated confidently.

On January 8, Opetaia successfully defended his IBF title, knocking out David Nyika in the fourth round.
