Jai Opetaia Quickly Knocked Out David Nyika
On January 8 in Broadbeach, Australia, an IBF cruiserweight (up to 90.7 kg) title bout took place. The local champion, Jai Opetaia (27-0, 21 KOs), defended his title against New Zealander David Nyika (10-1, 9 KOs).
In the fourth round, Opetaia sent his opponent to the canvas. Moments later, he sealed an early victory with his next attack.
For Opetaia, this was his second title defense since reclaiming his belt in the spring of 2024 by winning a rematch against Mairis Briedis. In his first defense, he knocked out Jack Massey in the sixth round in autumn 2024.
For Nyika, this was the first defeat of his career.
