Hearn Lists Potential Opponents for Canelo

In an interview on the Boxing Social YouTube channel, Matchroom Boxing head promoter Eddie Hearn shared his expectations for the next fight of the undisputed super middleweight (up to 76,2 kg) world champion, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).

"Of course, I'm going to be biased and say that Canelo should fight his mandatory challenger, Edgar Berlanga. It's Mexico versus Puerto Rico.

But I also understand that Berlanga is an outsider. A fight with Munguia would be fantastic. I think Jaime Munguia looked great in his fight against John Ryder. He's another young fighter who will come to fight. Like Edgar, he's got big balls, a big heart. It would be a beautiful fight.

There's Munguia, there's Berlanga, there's Benavidez, there's a potential rematch with Bivol, there's Charlo, but that's a terrible fight, it would be bad for PPV. In my opinion, Jaime Munguia is the fight that's needed now, and then in September, it could be Edgar Berlanga or Benavidez.

Canelo will fight anyone. He has zero fear. He just wants great fights, he wants people who come to fight. And he's got a great list of contenders," Hearn said.

According to ESPN, Canelo's next fight will be against WBC Silver holder Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) on May 4th, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
