Haney Discusses His Biggest Career Purse for Ryan Fight

WBC lightweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) shared in an interview with MMA Hour the details of the negotiations with Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs), why the fight was nearly called off, and just how significant the purse will be.

"Ryan challenged me. We started negotiations, then they fell through. And then, as you all know, Ryan went on a run with Floyd.

He was negotiating with Romero, Cruz. I really didn't know what was happening, so I started looking at other options because that fell through. Cruz and Romero agreed on a fight, bam – and Ryan's back in the picture.

Negotiating again was easy. If two guys want to make a fight happen – it's not that hard. Of course, we spent a long time discussing the numbers. That part always takes time, but organizing the fight otherwise was not difficult.

A fantastic deal. Without a doubt, this is the biggest purse of my career," said Haney.

The Haney vs. Garcia fight is scheduled for April 20 in New York at the Barclays Center. Initially, it was planned for the athletes to box for the WBC title in Las Vegas, but Devin stated that Saul Alvarez was the obstacle to that venue.
