Gervonta - Shakur Fight Not Happening This Fall

Recently, it was reported that WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) and WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) would fight on November 23 in Las Vegas, USA. However, Shakur denied this information.

"It's fake!!!" Stevenson wrote on Twitter.

Insider Dan Rafael confirmed Shakur's words.

"Two involved sources told me it's not true," Rafael wrote on social media.

Following this, information emerged about Stevenson fighting Mexican William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs). The most likely date and venue for the fight was October 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the undercard of the showdown between WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight champion (up to 79.4 kg) Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) and WBA and IBO titleholder Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs).

However, the founder and head of Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Zepeda, Oscar De La Hoya, called the news false.

"Stop spreading fake news," Oscar wrote on Twitter.

On July 6, Shakur Stevenson won a unanimous decision against Artem Harutyunyan (12-2, 7 KOs). That same evening, William Zepeda knocked out Giovanni Cabrera (22-2, 7 KOs) in the third round.

On June 15, Gervonta Davis knocked out Frank Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) in the 8th round, handing him his first career loss. Davis was initially set to fight IBF lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) at the end of the year, but the deal fell through, making Shakur the most likely opponent for "Tank."
