On the night of June 16 in Las Vegas, USA, WBA lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) will defend his title against Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs). However, there are already talks about a possible fight between Tank and IBF titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs).
Insider Mike Coppinger revealed that the American and Ukrainian could face off this year.
"I hear a lot of talk about a Gervonta Davis vs. Vasyl Lomachenko fight happening this year. There have been some preliminary negotiations, and there is some momentum," Coppinger said.
Meanwhile, Top Rank founder and head Bob Arum stated that negotiations with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) are already underway, and the proposed fight could take place in November.
"We have been in constant contact with PBC representatives, so we will definitely resume negotiations next week if Gervonta wins on Saturday.
But again, this will not be the start of negotiations. We have been talking, Carl Moretti has been speaking with Luis DeCubas about this fight for several weeks. And hopefully, we will promptly agree on a fight in November," the promoter said.
In May, Vasyl Lomachenko defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout to win the vacant IBF lightweight title. Gervonta Davis last fought in April 2023, when he knocked out fellow American Ryan Garcia.
