Fundora vs. Spence Not Happening? WBO Threatens to Strip Title

WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora has yet to secure the opponent he was hoping for. It was previously announced that his fight against Terence Crawford has been postponed until the second half of 2025.

In light of this, discussions have turned to a potential matchup against Errol Spence, with whom Fundora was also negotiating. However, WBO attorney Gustavo Olivieri explained why the Organization does not support this fight and may impose sanctions.

Fundora must comply with WBO rules and fight a contender from the top 15 rankings. It’s very simple.

Spence’s team or his representatives can certainly file a petition and argue why he deserves consideration for a spot in the world rankings and request an opportunity to enter the top 15,” Olivieri explained.

Additionally, there are two more conditions:

- The WBO could place Spence in the top 15 of the junior middleweight division, which will be decided separately. However, in this case, the winner would be obligated to face Terence Crawford in their next bout.

- If Crawford chooses to fight someone else, he will lose his status as the mandatory challenger for the WBO title.
