IBO middleweight world champion Chris Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KOs) opened up about his emotions following his hard-fought victory over fellow Brit Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs).
“Everything surprised me. I didn’t know he was capable of what he showed. I really didn’t. I thought I would break him quickly. I underestimated him. I wasn’t prepared for that kind of fight. I didn’t know he had it in him — he had never shown it before. But he never needed to… until today. And today, he had to. So did I.
I always knew I had it in me. I just needed someone who could bring it out. I won’t lie — I didn’t expect it to be him. But the history between our fathers… it awakens a different soul, a different spirit. That’s what we both showed tonight.
I pushed through. There’s a lot going on in my life right now that I don’t want to get into, but I’m just happy my father is back by my side. We kept the family name alive, just like we promised. Now it’s only forward and upward. Having my father here was something special. He needed to be here. Everything we did tonight was because of what he built back then — and we did it again, baby,” said Eubank Jr.
As a reminder, on April 26, Chris Eubank Jr. defeated Conor Benn by unanimous decision. Full fight statistics are available via the link.
