WBA, WBC, and WBO welterweight (up to 66.7 kg) champion Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) claimed that he had the opportunity to face Jaron Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) twice.
Ennis received the IBF title after Crawford declined to defend it in a bout against him. At the time, Terence was obligated to have a rematch against Errol Spence (28-1, 22 KOs), and Ennis was the interim IBF champion.
Ennis, who will face David Avanesyan (30-4-1, 18 KOs) on July 13 for the IBF welterweight title, commented on Crawford's statement.
"Honestly, I don't know about the two opportunities he's talking about. He chose to fight David Avanesyan when he could have chosen me. That's his decision. Why try to blame me now? For me, it's simple: if an offer comes, I accept it. Why would I refuse a fight with Terence?
Were there negotiations? He asked if we were ready to take the fight. We said, 'Yes, we are ready.' That's it. Nothing more. No offers, no follow-ups. Do I want to fight him? Very much. I think that's the fight all boxing fans want to see. I'd love to meet him," Ennis said.
