"Disgust": Oscar De La Hoya Reacts to Tyson vs. Paul Fight

Former six-division world champion and now-promoter Oscar De La Hoya shared his blunt reaction to the bout between former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) and popular blogger-turned-boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) with a single word:

"Disgust."

De La Hoya elaborated on his opinion:

"I actually took the time to watch the fight. Honestly, as I watched, I felt nothing but disgust. Disgust because Jake Paul organized this fight, knowing Tyson is 58 years old.

I’m a fighter myself, and I once tried to return to the ring at 48, but my body simply said no. And here you have a 28-year-old Jake Paul fighting Tyson, who is a legend, a national and global treasure. It’s disgusting. I feel bad for Tyson, but you know what? I’m proud of him," De La Hoya told iFL TV.

To recap, on November 15, Jake Paul defeated Mike Tyson via unanimous decision. At 58, Tyson returned to the ring in an official fight for the first time since June 2005. The fight was contested over eight 2-minute rounds, and the result was officially recorded in both boxers’ careers.

According to Netflix, the fight was watched live by 60 million households worldwide, with peak viewership reaching 65 million. This made it one of the most-watched events of 2024.
