"Dirty Move": Boxers on Garcia's Doping Scandal

On May 2nd, the boxing community was shaken by the news of Ryan Garcia's (25-1, 20 KOs) failed drug test before his fight against WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs). Famous boxers responded to the news.

WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) called for Garcia to be banned from boxing: "Any nr who comes out and cheats like that with me will rest in peace. As will any boxer who will defend this s**t. I don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, get this nr out of boxing."

IBO lightweight champion George Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) called the American's weight and doping tricks a dirty move: "I stumbled upon the news of Garcia's positive doping test. If it's true... The guy has a positive doping test, more than three pounds overweight—he used every possible advantage. It all looks very bad. It's a dirty move. We need to sympathize with Devin. He went through hell in this fight. He was knocked down three times, but still finished the fight on his feet."

However, WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) was not as harsh. Tank said, "They'll do anything to take the win away from Ryan. If that's the case, then ban Eddie Hearn's privileged ass." However, Davis later deleted the tweet.

Super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) representative Caleb Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) wrote, "Everyone knows I don't cheat, right? How the f**k would we know?"

Undisputed middleweight world champion (up to 72.5 kg) Claressa Shields (14-0, 2 KOs) also commented on the event: "Of course, any person is innocent until proven guilty. There was never any sense in this fight. All the promotion was crazy. A crazy fight, and now this. If fighters agreed to VADA testing, they should never get in the ring with a boxer who had a 'dirty' test. I think that's the reason for the testing."
