According to insider Mike Coppinger, citing a letter from the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) tested positive for the banned substance ostarine. Ryan failed the test the day before and on the day of his fight against WBC super lightweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).
Garcia has 10 days to request an examination of his B sample. His A sample was also positive for 19-norandrosterone, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Ostarine, listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as an anabolic agent, increases endurance, reduces subcutaneous fat, and increases muscle mass. Lucian Bute was previously caught using the drug after his draw against Badou Jack in 2016. The result was changed to a disqualification loss. In 2022, Amir Khan tested positive for ostarine in his lost fight against Kell Brook and was banned for two years.
On April 21st, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney. Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion as Ryan did not make the weight limit and was not eligible for the title.
