Golden Boy Promotions founder and CEO Oscar De La Hoya didn't hold back in his criticism of the fight between Mexican WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saúl Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs).
Before the fight, Berlanga had threatened to slap Oscar, to which De La Hoya responded. Now, after the fight, De La Hoya expressed his disdain for the bout:
"I told you. You should’ve saved your hard-earned money," Oscar wrote.
Ahead of the fight, De La Hoya commented: "We’re in for a boxing match nobody asked for, and everyone will be watching the UFC event instead.
Canelo vs. Berlanga is just another boring show. They're trying to sell PPV for $90, and tickets start at $500. Paying for another meaningless Canelo fight that always goes the distance against a mediocre opponent is just robbery."
As a reminder, in the early hours of September 15, Saúl Álvarez defeated Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision to retain his titles.
