Two-time undisputed champion Terence Crawford has given his take on the most controversial moment of the fight between Gervonta "Tank" Davis and Lamont Roach—whether or not it should have been ruled a knockdown. He also shared his thoughts on who should have won the fight.
"A thousand percent, that should have been ruled a knockdown. If you take a knee in any situation during a fight, it should be counted. I don’t know if something got in his eye or what, but I know he took a knee, and it should have been called.
The referee started the count, so he should have finished it. I don’t understand why he stopped, but that’s something he’ll have to explain.
Honestly, I think Roach won even without the knockdown. It was a close fight, a good technical battle. They were countering each other well, but I felt Roach did more work, was more solid, and landed more punches than Tank.
Tank took over in the middle rounds. In the early rounds, Roach edged it slightly because neither guy was very active, but Lamont landed a bit more. Then, in the final rounds, Roach showed he wanted it more than Tank," said Crawford.
The controversial moment occurred in round 9, when Gervonta took a knee, but the referee did not count it as a knockdown.
