Canelo: "Fight with Jake Paul? I Don't Even Consider It a Real Fight"

WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) explained why he decided to collaborate with Turki Alalshikh and shared his thoughts on a potential fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs).

The Mexican fighter stated that he is focused on creating a legacy in professional boxing and views a potential fight with Paul as nothing more than a spectacle, which could happen once his career at the highest level is over.

"I think I made the right choice in partnering with Turki Alalshikh. I feel that way. I think our collaboration has huge potential, and that’s why we made this decision. Scull is the best opponent for me at this point in my career. I just want to continue writing my name into history.

A fight with Paul? I don’t even consider it a real fight. It’s more like a show than a real fight. That kind of event can wait until after I’m done with the highest level of boxing. When I’m finished with boxing at the top level, why not? Yes, maybe. I think it could be beneficial because it attracts fans who usually don’t watch boxing. They know Jake Paul, but they don’t know anything about boxing itself," said Alvarez.

It’s worth noting that in February, Canelo signed a contract with Riyadh Season for four bouts, after which Jake Paul accused the Mexican of avoiding a fight with him, showing what he claimed was a signed contract.

The undisputed super middleweight title fight between Saul Alvarez and William Scull will take place on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In November, Jake Paul defeated the legendary Mike Tyson by unanimous decision.
