Bruno Surace Shocks Jaime Munguia

In the early hours of December 15, a thrilling bout took place in Tijuana, Mexico, between Mexican star Jaime Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) and Frenchman Bruno Surace (26-0-2, 5 КОs).

The action began explosively, with Munguia flooring Surace in the second round with a powerful left hook. At that moment, it seemed like the Mexican fighter was on the verge of a quick victory. However, Surace not only survived the round but came back to turn the tables in dramatic fashion. In the sixth round, the Frenchman delivered a thunderous punch that knocked Munguia out cold, sealing the victory with a stunning KO.

This was Munguia’s fourth fight in 2024. Earlier in the year, he secured victories over John Ryder and Erik Bazinyan but also suffered a defeat against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. For Surace, this marked his first bout since December 16, 2023, when he defeated John Obregon via TKO in the 12th round.

Notably, the WBC had previously sanctioned a fight between Munguia and Christian Mbilli for the interim WBC super middleweight title, with the winner set to become the mandatory challenger for a showdown with Canelo. However, Surace's shocking win has thrown a wrench into those plans.
