The "interim" WBC super middleweight champion (up to 76,2 kg), David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), no longer believes that the undisputed super middleweight champion, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs), will ever want to meet him in the ring, claiming that Saul is afraid of him.
"When it comes to Canelo, it's complete nonsense. Like: 'Oh, he needs to show some respect.' I won't kneel before anyone because I've earned my chance.
This fight isn't happening not because he wants $150 million. It tells me he's scared. I don't think the fight with Canelo will happen, so I need to move on.
The guys at light heavyweight are just killers. Right now, my focus is entirely on them," said Benavidez.
Benavidez is considered the most desired opponent for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, but the Mexican star is not rushing to make this fight happen. On May 4th, Canelo will face another Mexican, Jaime Munguia. Alvarez has stated he is ready to fight Benavidez tomorrow if he receives a $150 million purse. Promoter Eddie Hearn reacted to such a price for the fight.
Benavidez will make his next fight debut at light heavyweight (up to 79,4 kg) against Oleksandr Gvozdyk. On June 15th, they will box for the "interim" WBC belt.
